Zaida Cobb, popularly known by her stage name Zaida Wrote It, is one of the West Coast’s most talented singer-songwriters. Her rapid success over the past few years has led to the creative working on several amazing bodies of works including some of her own.
With this year poised to be her most monumental thus far, Zaida stopped by to break down some of her writing credits over the previous year. Some of those include Rubi Rose, Rico Nasty, and MarMar Oso amongst others. Check out our conversation with Zaida below.
Rubi Rose – “Papi”
Papi came about at one of my first sessions where Me, Rubi, BankRollGotit, and Diego Ave linked up. Rubi wanted to do something a little different that had more of a melodic but still hard approach, BankRollGotit started playing beats and we automatically were like “Load this one up!” I hopped in the booth and started laying ideas, and not too much longer after that we finished Papi, and Rubi layed it the same night. Easy peezy lemon squeeze.
MarMar Oso – “Beautiful”
I was at the studio one day working on some references over at FTL’s spot in Noho. MarMar’s managers Dave O and Trayce played me an unfinished idea that MarMar started and told me they wanted to to finish it up and bring the whole idea together. I took the theme that MarMar started and hopped in the booth to finish writing the rest of the song. It took me about 10 minutes, and once I finished his managers loved it and had MarMar cut it the next morning. Then, Boom! Beautiful was born.
Zaida – “Lil Mama”
It’s funny because I actually recorded Lil Mama three times over the span of a year before I got the perfect finished produce that I liked. Originally, I was only a feature on it, I did the book and that was it. But I loved the song so much, and my homies weren’t doing anything with the song, so I took matters into my own hands and decided to make it my own!
Rico Nasty – “Smack A Bitch (Remix)”
This song came about in such a spontaneous random way haha. I was literally in bed about to go to sleep, then Rubi hit me up telling me to pull up to her session. Thank God I got my sleepy self out of bed because when I got to the studio, she was working on her verse for the remix. She had a some cadence ideas in mind, so I just took her ideas and brung them to life in the booth! It was a great surprise when I found out Sukihana and PpCocaine were also on the remix! We love a star studded remix with Queens raging out!
DCMBR – “Don’t Ask”
This is honestly one of my favorite songs I have written to this day! DCMBR’s A&R, Gogglez, had reached out to me on Instagram during the first lockdown. I was locked in my room for 3 months straight writing songs daily, and this was one of the songs that I wrote! Not too much longer after I wrote the song, DCMBR cut it and added his own verse as well. It was such a bop that we shot the music video and yes Zaidawroteit made a lil cameo!
