New York-based singer and model Yumi Nu released her new single “Illusions,” creating a heavenly world that can only exist through the destruction of former limitations. The song arrives ahead of Nu’s forthcoming debut EP, Hajime, slated to hit streaming platforms on May 20th.
“Illusions” documents Yumi’s journey of self-actualization, defined by the ever-changing relationship she has with her cultural identity and beyond. The single follows a string of previously released songs such as “Gully” and “Sandcastles,” which Nu unloaded last month.
“I wrote ‘Illusions’ about the illusion of the boxes and cages we put ourselves in,” she says. “I realized I had always had a ceiling over my head of how much potential I could reach and what I was worthy of, but it was me who put it there. It felt like realizing I was in a simulation. A belief and narrative I lived in but never questioned if it could be different.”
Yumi Nu’s forthcoming debut EP will be released on May 20th. In the meantime, listen to “Illusions” below.
Elsewhere in music, Audrey Nuna continues to promote her debut album with the release of her new video for “Get Luv.”
