R&B singer-songwriter DaniLeigh releases her new EP, aptly titled My Side, via Def Jam. The project is comprised of seven songs and includes pre-release cuts “Dead To Me” and “Heartbreaker.”
My Side serves as a follow-up to 2020’s MOVIE, which featured Ty Dolla $ign, Fivio Foreign, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and Queen Naija among many others in its 16-track entirety. Notably, the project introduced extremely successful singles like “Levi High” featuring Da Baby, “Dominican Mami,” and “Monique.” It was also joined by a short film that perfectly encompasses everything that fans alike love about the singer.
The project arrives months removed from the songstress’ controversy with rapper and father of her child DaBaby, which irrupted in November after she was kicked out of his Charlotte apartment. Following the argument, a slew of events took place including the “ROCKSTAR” rapper getting into a brawl with Dani’s brother among several Instagram live videos shared online. However, she sat down with Angie Martinez for a tell-all interview, delving into their relationship and other topics in the 23-minute clip.
Some of those same themes of love, heartbreak, and toxicity appear across this EP, including songs like “Call Me Out My Name” and “Hate To See It” to name a few. Meanwhile, the final song “4 Velour” provides a bit of contrast, dedicated to her daughter and first child. Production and songwriting credits go to the likes of Cheyenne Lavene, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, Street Symphony, Jazze Pha, and more.
