After unloading pre-release singles like “FALLEN STAR” and “LEVELS,” Vancouver-based alternative-hip-hop provocateur Boslen shares his new project GONZO. Featuring a lone guest appearance from Y2K, the EP boasts seven surefire songs.
“MANIC” kicks the EP off with soul-shaking 808s that are balanced by stripped-back bars whilst “GONE”—joined by a cinematic music video—allows the artist to be both boastful and vulnerable at once. Meanwhile, cuts like “HEIST” and the closing track “SCARS” tastefully showcase Boslen’s artistry and the project’s genre-bending production.
“I’m inspired by the artist Salvador Dalí. He would hold a fork in his hand and every time he fell asleep, he would drop the fork and wake up and immediately draw on a canvas in front of him. I thought it’s crazy that he’d push himself that far to create,” the artist states. “That’s how I came up with the world of GONZO of how delusional you have to be for your art. You have to have delusional confidence to believe in yourself.”
