Sabrina Carpenter Shares Her Fifth Album ’emails i can’t send’

Today, Sabrina Carpenter releases her eagerly-awaited fifth studio album, emails i can’t send, serving as one of her most honest and personal bodies of work to date. Comprised of 13 songs, the LP is joined by three pre-release singles: “Fast Times,” “skinny dipping,” and “Vicious.”

Carpenter originally teased the project’s release in January of last year, releasing her stellar single “Skin.” The song’s visual effort, which accumulated over 28 million views, saw the singer can be seen on top of a car with the license plate “SC52021.” It alluded to her album releasing in 2021, as hinted at by her initials, the number five, and year. Despite not releasing that year, she unveiled “skinny dipping” months later, positioning her in a place of self-healing as she sings about a former relationship.

Meanwhile, “Fast Times” came out in February, accumulating roughly 6 million views on YouTube. In regard to the record, Sabrina Carpenter shared the meaning on Instagram: “I’m always told how fast life goes and to make sure I really live life to the absolute fullest and appreciate the moment I’m presently in, cause we don’t get any rewrites.” Directed by Amber Park, Julia Michaels and JP Saxe assisted in co-writing the record.

“Vicious” arrived alongside the album announcement, detailing Carpenter’s dealings with a vicious person who deceived her and thus, the song finds her reflecting on those sad moments. Elsewhere, new tracks like “emails i can’t send” seemingly opens up about her father cheating, while “because i liked a boy” could possibly hint at her past relationship with Joshua Bassett. Serving as a collection of Sabrina Carpenter’s most vulnerable moments, emails i can’t send sees the songstress letting it all out.
