Rina Sawayama‘s upcoming second studio album, titled Hold the Girl, is scheduled for release on September 2, 2022. In advance of the project’s release, the singer-songwriter has made the title track available for listeners and fans alike.

“’Hold the Girl’ was the first song I wrote for the record at the end of 2020 – I had gone to therapy and had a revelation, so I decided to write the song,” the singer shares in regard to the song. “That was the start of it, and then I started doing more intense therapy. I was crying before going into the studio and going into the studio to write about it.”

Sawayama began intensive therapy to process something traumatic from her upbringing at the same time she was writing and recording Hold the Girl, and these 13 songs serve as a journey through the insights and progress she encountered. It’ll include pre-release singles “This Hell” and “Catch Me In The Air,” both of which have accumulated millions of global streams since their debut. She worked on the project with producers and songwriters with Clarence Clarity and Paul Epworth, citing influences such as progressive rock, 90s rave, country music, and other genres.
