Rina Sawayama Returns With “This Hell”

Rina Sawayama is celebrating a new chapter in her music career with the release of her new single “This Hell.” The cheek pop song serves as the first taste of her forthcoming second studio album, Hold The Girl, slated to drop later this year on September 2nd.

During the opening verse of the song, Rina sings, “Saw a poster on the corner opposite the motel / Turns out I’m going to hell if I keep on being myself / Don’t know what I did but they seem pretty mad about it / God hates us? Alright then! Buckle up, at dawn we’re riding.” The latter of the song sees her referencing Britney Spears, singing, “Fuck what they did to Britney, to Lady Di and Whitney.”

Thus far, Rina Sawayama’s sophomore effort is rumored to have thirteen songs with influences from the Y2K era and 90s rave music among others. It will serve as a proper follow-up to her critically acclaimed and widely praised debut album SAWAYAMA, which was released in April 2020. The new record not only sees the musician enter a completely new space sonically, but her aesthetic concurrently matches the themes of the project as well.
