Detroit comes together on Queen Naija and Big Sean’s new single “Hate Our Love.” The deeply romantic track, which samples the classic 70s hit “Sounds Like A Love Song” by Bobby Glenn, celebrates the kind of love that thrives despite hard times and haters.
Produced by Mike Woods (Kehlani, Kiana Ledé), Sean kicks the song off with, “I can’t lie, I wanted you the first time that I saw you / Tried to diss me till you realized I’m someone you could talk to.” Queen takes on both the first and second verse and chorus while Big Sean follows suit on the bridge of the record.
Prior to the release of “Hate Our Love,” Queen Naija collaborated with superproducer Hitmaka for “Quickie,” which was released in September of last year. Elsewhere, she also featured on YNW Melly’s “Pieces,” Lil Poppa’s “Love & War (Remix),” and Ar’mon & Trey’s “Chanel.” Naija’s deluxe studio album, missunderstood…still (deluxe edition), was released in April as well. On top of the seven new songs that weren’t included in the original full-length project, it also features Toosii, Latto, Lil Durk, and Lucky Daye to name a few.
Big Sean on the other hand has had a pretty monumental run this past year with his Hit-Boy collaborative project What You Expect being released towards the tail-end of 2021. The six-song project boasts features from Bryson Tiller, Lil Durk, Babyface Ray, and 42 Dugg. Besides that, Sean also exited his GOOD Music deal in favor of one directly with Universal Music Group. Sean has also been doing a good bit of features, recently appearing on Russ’ latest mixtape.
“Hate Our Love” is one of Queen Naija’s first records in a while, and seemingly signals a new era for the singer. Stream the song below.
