Netflix Announces ‘Squid Game’ Season 2

Netflix officially renews its hit series Squid Game for a second season, slated to release later this year. The Korean dystopian blockbuster, became the streaming platform’s biggest launch this past year with over 100 million people watching the show within its first 12 days.

In regard to the new season, director Hwang Dong-Hyuk says, “It took 12 years to bring the first season of ‘Squid Game’ to life last year. But it took 12 days for ‘Squid Game’ to become the most popular Netflix series ever.” He adds, “As the writer, director, and producer of ‘Squid Game,’ a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.”

Dwang also teases some things that fans alike can expect in the second season, including Young-hee’s boyfriend. “And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with the ddakji might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su.” Last season spanned nine episodes that were simultaneously released at the same time in September 2021, per Netflix’s binge-inducing approach.
