For Boston-born Palestinian artist Neemz, music is just one of the several avenues of creative expression that she uses to showcase her extraordinary talent. Emerging on the scene with her song “Runnin’ Thru The City” in partnership with EMPIRE, the polymath rapper-singer unmissable presence in the alternative hip-hop space.
In 2019, she became one of the first featured hijabi models for Bodega’s Nike x Mathew Williams Collection subsequently followed by her being a runway model for KidSuper during NYFW. The following year, Neemz was chosen to be a Converse All-Star where they highlighted her as a multidisciplinary artist, which further propelled the creative into popularity. That same year, she began making waves across the music industry upon the release of singles such as “Plan A” and “Awake”—the former produced by Maxwell Lighthall and the latter by BYNX (Zack Fox, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Uzi Vert). Since then, things have only spiraled up for the multifaced musician.
On her 2021 offering, It’s Above Me, Neemz’s melodies have a pull so strong they almost necessitate their own law of physics. Comprised of eight songs, the project is nominally about letting go to have a better understanding of self as the singer navigates her twenties. “My Love” and “Damaged Feelings” among others show her evolution as an artist, fluently moving across rapturous deliverance and commanding lyricism. In regards to her debut EP, she shares, “I wrote this project in such a difficult time of my life but yet so beautiful. I was coming to terms with a lot of emotions, feelings, and things that no longer served me.”
Though only on her first full-length offering, these vulnerable yet self-aware compositions are what make her music enjoyable. It’s evident that Neemz is still figuring out her music and continually growing beyond just her artistry. Stream her discography below.
