London-based singer and songwriter Morgan Munroe graces fans with the release of her new EP, aptly titled Elvira. Comprised of nine songs, the record clocks in just over twenty minutes and introduces a number of new tracks. The singer previously gave us a preview of the project with pre-release singles such as “Mutual,” “Space,” and “End Game.”
Drawing inspiration from Michelle Pfeiffer’s fictional character from the 1993 film Scarface, Elvira embodies Morgan’s ability to seamlessly blur the lines between fantasy and real-life, masculinity and femininity, all whilst breaking down stereotypes in the process. Themes of love, heartbreak, relationships, submission, and control are spread throughout the full-length release, many of which can be found in her accompanying short film that arrived days before the EP’s release.
“Elvira is the odyssey of a toxic love story played out from start to finish. There’s pockets of narration, self-reflection, a couple of movie references, a blend of feminine and masculine energy, empowerment, role reversal, and probably every emotion you could think of,” Morgan shares in regard to the project. “9 more songs about love and heartbreak to put into the world, however, these ones are from a completely different angle.”
