Interscope Record’s Melii is one of music’s brightest stars. She has all of the charms that set her apart from a contemporary dank society. She’s alluring, but not just in an epicurean sense. The Afro-Latina rapper and singer makes you want to get to know her, peel back the layers of her “take no shit” exterior to get to the heart of who she really is. Today, she unveiled a new single and video titled “Way Too Soft,” a record off of her forthcoming album.
Speaking on the song, she says, “Everybody has a broken side. I no longer work off ego. I’m true to self. I’ve grown so much, I have times where I do fall off and ego kicks in, but I’ve learned how to manage my life a lot better.” The visuals are directed by Des Gray, who is known for working with fellow stars like Mulatto, Toosii, and Chris Brown amongst others.
Melii’s captivating and beautiful on-screen visuals for the video bounce from glammed up prima donna to sultry femme fatale, a gangsta flick replete with martial arts, poker games, and robbery.
Her upcoming album, set to be released via Interscope Records, showcases a vulnerable side, yet sticks to her ongoing theme of female empowerment. It’s her who has felt the sting of heartbreak. Her who has “ascended” beyond old thought patterns and practices. It’s her openness and penetrating eyes that draw you in. Melii is transparent about her challenges with anxiety and the need to balance her mental health. Check out “Way Too Soft” below.
