Colombian and Italian artist Mariposa is redefining what Latin rap looks like today with her genre-defying sound, DIY-aesthetic and insatiable desire to push the boundaries. Today, she shares her defying new single, “Nunca” along with a striking music video. The track creatively embodies the frustration that comes with feeling misunderstood, especially by the people closest to you.
Speaking on the song, she shares, “When I wrote this song, I felt very misunderstood by the people around me. It was a period of time when I was also clashing with family members and when I tried to explain my feelings, it felt like no one could understand me. I decided to channel that frustration into ‘Nunca’.”
Directed by Slicevisuals, the visual shows Mariposa turning to nature’s serenity for an escape and making it her own. The release serves as another layer that makes up the magical, juxtaposing world of a self-proclaimed “hyperactive weirdo who just wants to be free”. A universe that is lined with menacing raps, themes of female empowerment, community, and a Y2K style.y about her journey in hopes of uplifting others. Watch “Nunca” below.
