Over the course of many months, Lolo Zouaï‘s fans have been treated to previews of new songs during her stint as Dua Lipa‘s opening act on the North American leg of the Future Nostalgia Tour. Today, she announced the upcoming release of her highly anticipated new studio album, titled PLAYGIRL, which is set to hit shelves on October 14.
The 13-song album has a carefully crafted tracklist and vibe, ranging from online fantasy to dance bangers to ethereal jams. The pop phenomenon has released a new song today under the same name—stylized as “pl4yg1rl”—that sounds like it was made for a Y2K e-girl dance era. To offer her fans a taste of what’s to come, Zoua has also created an interactive pre-save website in tandem with the song.
Lolo’s new period is full of life and energy; listeners are encouraged to join her in the digital-arcade world of PLAYGIRL and immerse themselves in the record’s visceral pop. By incorporating elements of R&B, hyper-pop, and even some hip-hop from the 2000s into her music, Lolo aims to demonstrate that women in the popular media sphere, or “Playgirls,” may have agency over not just their artistic output but also their sound, sexuality, message, and image. Like the summer hits “Blur” and “Give Me a Kiss,” the new track “pl4yg1rl” is sure to be a hit.
