After months of rumors, Lady Gaga has announced that she would portray Harley Quinn in the forthcoming film, Joker 2.
A teaser video from the singer-actress was uploaded last week on her Instagram, revealing her involvement in the film and a new release date of October 4th, 2024, which marks five years after the original movie. The song “Cheek to Cheek,” which Gaga famously covered with Tony Bennett, is included in the teaser.
When Variety first announced in early June that Gaga had been given the part of Harley Quinn in the film, Joker: Folie à Deux, Phillips released the script cover on his Instagram account on June 7. Gaga will feature alongside Phoenix, who won an Oscar for his performance as the Joker in this year’s Joker remake. The Joker was a huge box office success, generating over $1 billion worldwide and soon surpassing all previous R-rated blockbuster records.
Joker 2 will be Lady Gaga’s third significant picture after House of Gucci and A Star Is Born, both of which won her an Oscar nomination, were released in the last few years.
