KFC & Beyond Meat Team Up To Launch Plant-Based Chicken Nuggets
It looks like KFC and Beyond Meat are teaming up to offer plant-based fried chicken nuggets in its stores across the U.S. starting January 10. The nationwide rollout will be available for a limited time, intended to mimic the fried chicken.
“This is really about where the customer is going; they want to eat more plant-based proteins,” said Kevin Hochman, U.S. president of KFC. “It’s January, so it’s a time of New Year’s resolutions and wanting to do something different in your diet.”
Beyond Meat CEO Ethan Brown adds, “From a supply perspective, we feel really good about it, and it’s something we have experience with in initial trials.” To kick things off, Beyond Meat enlists influencer and brand ambassador Liza Koshy to introduce the Beyond Fried Chicken. Prices start at $6.99 USD and vary by location, coming in six and 12-piece orders.
KFC is the latest fast-food chain to hop on the meat alternative trend. Other chains such as Burger King have introduced the Impossible Whopper and Subway previously announced Beyond Meatball Marinara. Amongst the collaborations, Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods are at the forefront, creating a bit of competition between the plant-based meat producers.
Elsewhere in food, otherworld reimagines childhood favorites with plant-based pancake mix.
