Today, Joshua Bassett unveils his latest single “Smoke Slow.” It marks his second official release of 2022 and arrives alongside an accompanying music video.
“There’s only so far we can go / I’m next to you but I’ll never be close / So take your time while you’re mine and smoke slow,” he croons on the song’s chorus. He teased the record on TikTok on May 9th and even a week later, stating in the comments that the lines were just for entertainment purposes and that he doesn’t endorse smoking, per his Disney-friendly appeal.
In the music video for Joshua Bassett’s previous hit “Doppelganger,” the singer is coerced into confronting the lingering emotions he still has for an ex-lover. In the video clip, Bassett enters a restaurant and is overcome with nostalgia for a former flame when he sees a patron who uncannily resembles his ex-girlfriend. In addition, the singer released three new singles in December, titled “Crisis,” “Secret,” and “Set Me Free,” and at the time, she cautioned her followers that there would be “a lot of loud voices in this next chapter – positive, negative, and everywhere in between.”
Bassett and the original High School Musical actor, Corbin Bleu, made an appearance on Good Morning America last month. While Bleu played the role of Chad Danforth in the HSM films that were shown on Disney Channel, Bassett portrays Ricky Bowen in the series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series that airs on Disney+. On July 27, the contemporary adaption will return for a third season, in which fellow co-stars Olivia Rodrigo, Matt Cornett, and Sofia Wylie will also be included. Students from East High School will spend the summer at Camp Shallow Lake, according to the itinerary for the season.
