Jessie Reyez‘s second album, YESSIE, has arrived after months of anticipation. Over the course of 11 songs, the musician charts her emotional growth and development from heartbreak and longing to acceptance and fulfillment.
Fans may get a sense of how intimate this initiative is just by reading the title, which is her own family moniker. Unofficially given that nickname from an early age, the singer manages to strike a balance between the world-weary and clear-eyed truth-telling that many people give up on as they become older. Standout cuts include records like “Queen St. W,” “Still C U,” and “Break Me Down” among others.
With just one guest appearance from 6LACK, Reyez is left to shine as the album’s only focal point on YESSIE. This pair has worked together before on “Imported,” which previously appeared on her 2020 album Before Love Came To Kill Us. Jessie also unveiled the album and performed its first track, “Mutual Friend,” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier this summer, which increased interest in the album.
In addition, Jessie Reyez announced a global tour for 2022, set to begin on October 13 and include dates in the United States, United Kingdom, and the European Union. Stream the album below.
