Grace Davies marks her return with the release of her first official single of the year, “Wolves.” Originally performed in 2017 on X Factor, the singer-songwriter calls back to a pivotal moment in her career, updating the song with new lyrics.
“You can run, you can hide / But you need to find your way through the fire / Say your goodbyes, get away / ‘Cause you gotta grit your teeth,” Davies sings on the record’s opening verse. Later in the song, she croons, “You gotta keep a light on / Chasing the wolves away, no / You better turn a light on.”
“Wolves” is Grace’s first single since her 2021 sophomore EP i wonder if you wonder, which was comprised of six songs. The full-length release helmed songs such as “testosterone,” “toothbrush,” and popular track “roots.” The latter of which garnered 700K views on YouTube since its release back in October. More recently, she unveiled live performance videos in the months following its release for each of the respective tracks.
“This is about owning your mistakes and using them as ammunition to power through life. ‘You can run, you can hide, but you need to find your way through the fire.’ It’s a power anthem about recovering after a world of shit was thrown at you and believing that if you can get through that then you’re invincible and can get through anything,” she says speaking on the song. “Having lived with this song for five years, I was excited to get stuck into the production as I’d always had a strong vision for the track.”
