In 2020, rising Australian skincare brand Foile soared into popularity for their not only natural products but their approach to solving the beauty industry’s consumption problem. Founded by Su Tuttle and Alexandra Grima, the refillable beauty label has an array of enticing products crafted from locally sourced materials.
“We want to reimagine the way beauty is produced, consumed & experienced,” the brand states. “We want to create progressive skincare that challenges existing methods, processes and ideologies, and imagines new ones, so you can access skincare in a way that makes you feel good.” Foile’s site is easy to navigate, with the option to shop by ingredient—actives, face oils, botanicals, and more—as well as by concert, whether that be brightening, hydrating, refining, and so on.
From a pleasant external for packaging and sleek glass containers to house their product, the skincare brand makes a remarkable first impression. We had the pleasure of trying out some of Foile’s products to see if they live up to the hype. Check out our review below!
Muslin Face Cloth
Cleansing your skin is undoubtedly one of the most important steps in a skincare routine. It doesn’t matter how expensive or how much product you apply, if you don’t have a clean face then it simply won’t penetrate. While sponges and towel clothes are easy to find and inexpensive, substituting for a muslin cloth can really do wonders to one’s skin. You can use them with a cleanser by lathering and then wiping gently until the cloth comes away clean.
Made from 100% cotton fabric, Foile’s Muslin Face Cloth is finely woven and multilayered to brush gently on the skin. As where many terrycloths can feel rough and easily inflame your skin, this cloth gently exfoliates and buffs away dry skin while simultaneously refining skin texture—purchase the product here.
Skin Sponge Serum
A great serum routine is like the MVP of your skincare routine, it works wonders by giving your skin the extra vitamins and nutrients at the begging (or end) of your day. Foile’s Skin Sponge Serum does just that, and thanks to its locally sourced and vegan ingredients, it’s perfect for all types of skin including dry and oily.
The serum includes a number of natural ingredients and vitamins including hyaluronic acid, B5, cucumber oil, kelp, and horseradish root amongst others. Glyceryl caprylate, xanthan gum, acacia gum, and PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil also help enhance it. With the Skin Sponge Serum, you apply after cleansing and toning the skin during the morning or night and follow with appropriate treatment cream. Foile recommends that you follow it up using their Daily Jelly Moisturizer—purchase the product here.
Coconut Face Oil
Coconut oil is known for its lauric acid, which has antimicrobial properties known to fight acne-causing bacteria. While sometimes disagreeable with oily and acne-prone skin, it has a great skin-sealing capability and is amongst several other oils that work wonders for dry skin. Described as “your minimal go-to for multi-use hydration and protection,” Foile’s Coconut Face Oil does just that plus more.
With the Coconut Face Oil, it’s as simple as applying a thin layer before bedtime after your skin cleansing routine, allowing the oil to restore skin overnight. Given that it is clear and unscented, it also works perfectly for applying during the day as well—purchase the product here.
