Curated Sophie Castillo

Emerging from the UK Latin music scene, Sophie Castillo has released her latest single “Solo Tú.” The vibrant fusion of Latin, alternative, and pop music draws inspiration from Sophie’s Colombian and Cuban heritage while echoing the romanticism of Latin music.

“Solo Tú” is a song about creating a universe for you and the person you love where you can love each other freely and without judgment or fear. Sophie wrote the song based on her own experiences of navigating love as a woman of color and wanted to support the freedom to love despite the world’s judgment.

The single features a strong, emotional vocal performance and lush instrumentation, with elements of Latin, jazz, and pop woven throughout. The majority of the song is written in Spanish, adding to its cultural significance and impact as a single released by an artist who’s certainly one to watch this year.

Undoubtedly, Castillo’s unique style and sound have garnered attention from music lovers all over the world. With “Solo Tú,” Sophie invites listeners on a journey of love and self-discovery, showcasing her exceptional talent as a rising star. Below, the singer-songwriter curated a playlist with some of her favorite records, including bops from Kali Uchis, Rosalía, Karol G, and more.

Kali Uchis – “I Wish You Roses”

This song has such a powerful message. It’s about sending love to people who are no longer in your life. It can be so easy to fall into the trap of being bitter and putting out bad energy when you’re hurt. But rising above and wishing people you once loved or even still love well is the best way to heal. The energy you put into the world is what you get back so always move with love at the core of everything you do. This song encompasses that so beautifully so I love to play it as a reminder to be loving and positive.

Lana Del Rey – “West Coast”

Lana has been my all-time favorite artist since I was 13 so I love all of her music which made it hard to choose. But I just love how this song makes me feel like I’m in a film. It’s a masterpiece. The whole composition, the vocals, production, writing, everything is just beautiful.

Sophie Castillo – “Solo Tú”

This is my latest single and has a special place in my heart. It’s about creating a universe for you and the person you love to be able to love each other freely, in peace, and without judgement. I think a lot of people will be able to relate to this feeling of wanting to be free to love, especially in this day and age. I wish that freedom for everybody and wanted to convey that in this song. I really wanted to make a happy, positive, and loving with a strong, beautiful message and this is what I came up with.

Bushbby, Swuni, Kanti Qena – “Agua Viva”

This song literally makes me want to dance under a waterfall. The lyrics are so beautiful and pure and make me feel reconnected with nature and fully in touch with my feminine energy. It literally feels like Mother Nature sang this song.

Sophie Castillo – “Fine”

This song is also very special to me. I wrote it at a time when I was extremely overwhelmed with my emotions. #justpiscesthings and I wanted to remind myself and the listener that everything will be fine in the end, thoughts are fleeting and we can get through anything. At the end of the song I put a positive affirmation in Spanish translating to: ‘I’m fine. Nothing can hurt me. God gave me tears to water the earth. And with, that I will succeed.
