Lil Baby‘s 4PF roster, which currently includes hitmakers like 42 Dugg and Rylo Rodriguez, welcomed its first lady in 2020. R&B singer Chalynn, who formerly went by the moniker Chalynn Monee’, releases her first official single and its accompanying visual effort of the year aptly titled “What You Do.”
Speaking on the song, the songstress shares, “I’ve taken my time doing this. I’m grateful for being with 4PF because they’ve allowed me to breathe and go through that. I’m not forced to sound a certain way. When I come out, it will be how I want to sound.” Paired with a sensuous black and white visual, the song is a hypnotic introduction to the label’s songbird. Chalynn offers up a refined and delicate vocal performance that perfectly complements her songwriting.
She continues, “The vibe I’m going for is sassy, and a mid-tempo vibe for the girls. I wish to bring the 2000s-era R&B. It’s gonna fit the modern day. It was so pure back then and slick. Nowadays, it’s so blunt.”
“What You Do” arrives roughly two years since the songstress signed to Lil Baby after hearing her online. In the announcement of her signing, the rapper shared, “Welcome to the team! Also want to thank you for trusting me and my label with your career!” via Twitter. Notably, the singer has seemingly already amassed a handful of co-signs from snippets and so forth ranging from SZA to Tay Keith. Prior to that, she appeared on Dess Dior’s “Summertime,” a bonus cut from her album Definition of Dess.
