Today, Calvin Harris recruits Dua Lipa and Young Thug for the release of his new single “Potion.” The song serves as the first taste of his forthcoming album Wav Bounces Vol. 2, which serves as a follow-up to his 2017 well-received project, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1.
“Late night conversations, electric emotions / Sprinkle with a little bit of sex / And it’s a potion, yeah,” Dua Lipa sings on the song’s chorus. Young Thug comes through on the track’s lone verse and raps, “I’ve been catchin’ love off a backboard / Runnin’ from your love, that’s what this track for.” Notably, singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez and Toronto-based producer and songwriter Maneesh are also credited for helping write the record as well.
“Potion” serves as Calvin Harris’ first lead single since 2021’s “By Your Side” featuring Tom Grennan, which received a number of remixes in the months following its release including an acoustic iteration. He also collaborated with the likes of Riva Starr and Love Regenerator, in addition to producing The Weeknd‘s “I Heard You’re Married” from his recent Dawn FM album. On the other hand, Dua Lipa released her collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, “Sweetest Pie,” back in March. The visual effort has since garnered over 31 million YouTube views and over 150 million global streams.
Meanwhile, Young Thug was recently arrested earlier this month on charges of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced & Corrupt Organization (RICO) Act alongside 26 other YSL affiliates including rapper Gunna. The 56-count indictment has found YSL directly liable for “in excess of 50” murders due to gun violence since 2015, using songs and their lyrics from as recent as 2021 to be used as evidence in the case. Prior to his arrest, the artist seemingly announced his next full-length project, which would serve as a follow-up to 2021’s Punk. Although, the project will likely be pushed back in favor of him being home to promote the project and its entirety.
