One of the most exciting teenage rappers coming out of Atlanta, Bktherula just dropped a pair of new singles, “Santanny” and “Blue.” Both songs catchy and boundary-pushing, showcasing Bktherula’s untameable charisma and her comfort on beats that sound like the future. The songs arrive alongside a new video which only underscores the trippy, anthemic energy of the tracks.
The first record is produced by Supah Mario (Drake, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug) and finds Bk skating over elastic sub-bass. “The main spark for my creativity is having fun fucking around and just being a kid,” Bktherula shared about “Santanny.” She added, “This song was such a non-serious, spur-of-the-moment type of thing. It’s one of those moments I’ll just laugh at for the rest of my life.”
The second song, produced by Azure, finds Bk pouring out her emotions aimed at someone who crossed her the wrong way. Speaking on “Blue,” Bk shared, “This one day I woke up feeling so betrayed. I felt insane and crazy. I didn’t know who to trust, and all I had a care for that day was money and material and how I’m gonna get it fast. It’s not a good mind state to be in all the time, but weirdly enough, betrayal can be motivating for me.”
The new material arrives months removed from the Atlanta rapper’s critically acclaimed EP Nirvana, which dropped in October. Watch the music video for “Blue” above.
