Artists To Watch: Abi Ocia, Reggie, Reyanna Maria
Here at Raydar Magazine, we believe in spotlighting emerging creatives across music who have an undeniably irresistible sound and bring something unique to the culture. Check out this week’s list of artists to watch featuring Abi Ocia, reggie, and Reyanna Maria!
Abi Ocia is a fiercely independent artist who over the past few years has been running up the numbers and amassing a large audience surrounding her ethereal vocals. Although she hasn’t put out much music since the release of her 2019 EP, Where Are You?, the rising music phenomenon is back with “LTWYLM.” The song, accompanied by a Helena Coan-directed visual effort, channels a bubbling 80s synth-pop sound that allows Ocia’s fervent vocals to take center stage.
On her latest, Abi shares, “The song is a playful confusion between the fantasy of falling in love, and the mournful realities those feelings can come with. It struggles to find a balance between these two emotions, while also indulging them.” She adds, “How long can you love something that you know may not be for you?” Given that it’s her first release since her two-year hiatus, the new record sets the tone for where she’s going sonically and what we may see in the future. Recently selected as Youtube’s Foundry Class of ‘21, Houston-born artist reggie has been cooking up some heat with his latest single “Traffic.” At the end of his last video “Avalanche” featuring Smino, he teased a snippet of the record left fans eagerly anticipating the full version. Well now it’s here and the Groove, Naz and Phoelix-produced track places his Southern roots on full display as he delivers catchy lines that’ll grab you by the ears.
With a slew of exciting new singles, his performance of “Ain’t Gon Stop Me” via COLORS, and working extensively on Maxo Kream’s new album Weight Of The World, there’s endless potential when it comes to reggie. Now, continuing the momentum and preparing his debut project, fans can expect a full-length on the horizon and more music in 2022. In the meantime, listen to “Traffic” below.
19-year-old Melbourne-based singer Reyanna Maria exploded with the buzzing single “So Pretty” and its Tyga-assisted remix over the past year. Since then, things have only been getting better after she inked a deal with Victor Victor (Pop Smoke, Young Devyn), and it’s very present in her music that she has the potential to be a mega pop star. This past week, she unveiled her song “Used 2,” which showcases her smooth delivery as she warns, “I might throw it back on your man like you used to.”
“Used 2” follows the release of her “What’s Ur Sign?” single, which also amassed loads of streams. Reyanna is paving a way for the Filipino community in the R&B and Pop space, and at a young age which makes her journey even more impressive. Watch the visualizer below.
