Today marks the official release of Ari Lennox‘s new track “Hoodie,” accompanied by an electric music video. Furthermore, the long-awaited sophomore album from the Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum singer-songwriter, titled age/sex/location, will be released on September 9th.
Ari and Elite, a longstanding Dreamville collaborator who oversaw eight songs on Ari Lennox’s 2019 album Shea Butter Baby, collaborate once again on “Hoodie.” Their latest offering is a swooning slow groove that demonstrates how Ari is modernizing every facet of her craft. As soon as the first note is sung, she captures the audience’s attention with a calm, authoritative presence, all the while pushing the limits of her sweet vocal range in a romantically charged song.
The video is even more explosive than the song itself; it has the singer perched on top of a fish tank while wearing racy undergarments and flirting with and maybe sexually engaging her male companion. The video, which has a plot twist worthy of a Jordan Peele movie, also includes hip-hop superstar Isaiah Rashad as Ari’s potential suitor.
The success of 2022 will continue with the premiere of “Hoodie” and its accompanying video. She has received three RIAA Gold certifications this year for the fan-favorite Shea Butter Baby cut “Whipped Cream,” the duet with Jazmine Sullivan “On It,” and the massive solo smash “Pressure,” and was nominated for four BET Awards in June. After the release of “Pressure” in late 2021, Ari’s career skyrocketed to new heights. The song will also be included on age/sex/location.
